Surprise Bachelorette Party Weekend
Last Friday I showed up at Paul's house for what I thought was going to be a nice relaxing evening sitting on the couch and watching TV. I was in for a surprise though as when I walked into the house Paul was not there but my sister, Alison, and Darra were. They had my bags packed and informed me we were off to Philly for the weekend. Tracie showed up a few minutes later and then we were off to Philly in the mini-van my sister had rented.
They seemed to all think that I had figured things out, but I definitely had no clue. I was even getting really upset that my sister had seemingly completely ignored her responsibility as the maid of honor (and only bridesmaid) to do something, and that all my friends who I had very blatantly suggested this too didn't seem to be planning anything. But they were all just doing it behind my back. Awww!
We met Sarah up in Philly at the hotel. My sister has lots of hotel points from all the traveling she does, so she booked us 2 suites at the Embassy Suites in downtown Philly.
A lot of people would probably think that it was a really lame bachelorette weekend, but it was perfect for me. I'm not a crazy party girl, and if I was forced to do all that crazy stuff I would have been miserable. This was much more enjoyable for everything I think.
After we got up to Philly on Friday night we went out to dinner at a tapas place called Amada where we also met up with my friend Erin who lives there. It was super yummy. All the food was really good, although we ordered way too much of it. Having not started dinner until 10, we just went back to the hotel after and hung out.
Saturday we got up and went shopping for ties and shoes for my sister for the wedding since my sister brought her bridesmaid's dress with her. We found a tie that matched that I really liked, but I need 3 ties and they only had 2. I decided to go ahead and buy the 2 ties figuring that I could find a third at another Macy's. That was a big mistake on my part apparently as I've now been to 3 other Macy's and none of them have the tie. Kara didn't find any shoes either.
After the shopping expedition we went on a Duck Tour of the city then had philly cheesesteaks for lunch. Yum! Then we walked down South Street where everyone tried to buy stupid bachelorette crap to force me to wear Saturday night. I finally agreed to a flashing button, although I avoided having it flash for most of the night.
On our way back to the hotel we walked by some place called the Magic Garden, which is this crazy mosaic art garden thing some artist created out of stuff like broken dishes, old bicycle wheels and all kinds of other stuff. It was crazy and really cool.
Saturday night we went out to dinner at a Japanese restaurant and then for some gelato. After that we went to an Improv Comedy show called Comedy Sportz. It was actually pretty funny. I think a lot of people were worried that it wasn't going to be very good, which can definitely be the case with improv, but the other thing we were deciding between was bowling and I didn't have the energy for that. So I decided on the improv. I think everyone enjoyed it, so it turned out to be a good choice.
Sunday we just got up and had breakfast at the hotel and then headed back to Baltimore.
It was a fun weekend. Thanks to all my friends for planning it.
